Where is Nambe flatware made? ›

A few years later, it was bought by the Hillenbrand family. Until about 10 years ago, Nambé's signature aluminum alloy products were manufactured in New Mexico. Now, Robedee said such merchandise is produced in India, while wooden items are made in Thailand and stainless steel flatware in Vietnam.

Hand-wash your Nambe metal with mild soap and water to ensure cleanliness. Dry immediately with a soft clean cloth. Never place Nambe in the dishwasher. Never leave Nambe in standing water.

A: Nambe's products are made of a 'patented metal alloy'. They are a high-end manufacturer and often contract with top designers, hence most of their products are expensive. However, those shakers just sold this morning so are no longer available from us. Helpful?

For dulled pieces: sparingly apply Nambé Polish on a soft cloth, then gently rub with a circular motion until the polish turns black and grainy. 18/10 flatware is the best quality stainless steel flatware. Typically of the extra heavy weight variety, 18/10 flatware feels sturdy in the hand, and it is more difficult to bend, making it a long-lasting flatware choice. Oneida Limited stopped making flatware in the United States in 2005. Sherrill Manufacturing made product for them for a few years after that but in 2009 Oneida transitioned all flatware production to Asia, primarily China, Vietnam and Indonesia.

Many Chinese factories still use Trichloroethylene or TCE, a known carcinogenic cleaning agent. TCE is used to give the finished product a clean gleaming look to it at the point of purchase. Any made in China flatware should be washed thoroughly, or better yet, avoided entirely.

Origin and early history
