So honored to have been on the Swarfcast Podcast from Noah Graff and Today's Machining World.Noah summarized the conversation better than I could:"Most of us don’t have a knack for pivoting. We follow the standard curriculum, and we keep going forward when we get in a lane, whether we believe it’s the right direction or not.But for Michael Gimbel, my guest on today’s show, seeing setbacks as serendipity and then pivoting is a natural gift.Michael built a CNC router in his garage by age 12. He dropped out of an elite university after one year to start a company selling 3D printing technology that he invented. When the company failed, he picked up the pieces, shifting to contract manufacturing and engineering consulting. But that business didn’t excite him, so Michael pivoted again to manufacture a spindle gripper he developed for automating his own vertical CNC mills. Today his company,Gimbel Automation, is thriving and his spindle grippers are saving machining companies hundreds of thousands of dollars onautomation. And he’s only 26!"#gimbelautomation #cncmachining #cncmachine #automation #instamachinisthttps://lnkd.in/gnnJBtZJ

The beginning of the Gimbel Automation journey began with an idea that no one else bought into -- that we could automate a CNC machine for under ten grand. We pushed forward and developed six different variants of spindle grippers despite many people deep in the industry being very skeptical... but when people got the grippers into their machines... their minds changed very quickly. But from that point on, we had to have a mindset shift --- once people had bought into in-machine automation, we had to shift our R&D cycle to one single thing...listening to our customers. It was from seeing our customer struggles that we began to think of what were building not as a bunch of products, but as an ecosystem. Out of this, we developed numerous steps forward making the customer install and integration process incredibly easy, the first of which was the Instant Solenoid Kit, which now lives on hundreds of machines across the world powering all kinds of awesome automation devices.

Our packaging game is dialed. Check out how we're sending out our Two-Op Automation Pallets. Crate is made from prefinished Baltic Birch. The goal is to make it easy to handle and hard to break for shipping carriers.Yes, these crates are overengineered and expensive, but our number one priority is that our customers get their automation solutions on-time and in perfect condition.#gimbelautomation #cncmachining #cnc #instamachinist #cncmachine #automation

Getting your parts off to any OSP -- whether anodizing, blasting, powder-coating or something else -- is always tricky.Check out these 3D printed trays that keep our parts safe between CNC production and anodizing. These have the added benefit of removing the labor-intensive wrapping and unwrapping of parts after finishing. These parts are used in our Rotary Bypass Grippers and Rotary Vacuum Grabbers.#gimbelautomation #cncmachining #cncmachine #automation #instamachinist

When you're selling an industrial B2B product -- especially if you're doing something new -- the hardest part can be educating your market. I believe that our second biggest hurdle behind our in-machine automation system's wider adoption is the question "How do I achieve this level of automation on MY machines with MY PARTS." (The biggest hurdle is people not even being familiar with what a Spindle Gripper is in the first place).Special thanks to Gorilla 76's various podcasts, which led me specifically to the idea of creating a short and sweet "How-To" video to better drive conversion, and an even more special shout out to Dylan Jackson who provided me some great feedback about our marketing and really inspired me to make fixing our marketing messaging a priority.

At Gimbel Automation, making automation easy is what we do.Below you can see the demo that we have running in our Alhambra Showroom Location pretty much non-stop.The big selling point of this system over a robot/cobot system or a pallet-pool is the ease-of-use and the overall system cost.Unlike a robot/cobot, the most obvious feature of our Two-Op Automation Pallet is that you're able to easily and quickly machine both operations of a standard two-operation component, meaning that every automated cycle you get true one-piece flow.Another key benefit is that -- when compared to a robot integration -- the majority of the cost of this kind of a system is in the automated workholding and flip station... which is something that customers using a robot or cobot have to buy anyway ON TOP OF the cost of the actual robotics system. At the end of the day, our goal at Gimbel Automation is to save you money and get you quick automation ROI - and the Two-Op Automation Pallet has saved countless shops tons of manual labor loading time on almost every mill its been placed on.
